A close shave! Astros midfielder Alex Bregman ditches his mustache mid- game

Third baseman for the Astros Alex Bregman looked rather hirsute when he began Sunday’s game against Royals.

Much like his face, Bregman has been having something of a rough patch this season.  

He is 4-for-20 over the last five games and he clearly felt he needed a change.

So in between the second and fourt inning he went inside for a shave.

Minutes later, between at-bats, Alex Bregman decided he needed to switch things up and his upper lip was entirely smooth the next time he appeared out on the plate

By the time he came back up to the plate in the fourth inning, something seemed different. 

Bregman was a smoother, cleaner version of himself. His face seemed brighter and fresher. Something was different. He had gone inside to shave off his mustache.

But despite the new streamlined appearance, Bregman didn’t appear to do any better with his clean-shaven look finishing the game 0-for-4 seeing his average drop to .167 over his past six games. 

Despite his personal performance, the AL West-leading Astros won 11-3.

The third baseman shaved his mustache in a matter of minutes before he was back on the field

‘I had no idea,’ Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole told MLB.com after the game. ‘I don’t pay attention to Alex’s shaving habits in the middle of the game. I did like the mustache. I thought it played. Personally, I’m a fan of the ‘stache, but I guess it’s been sent down.

 Bregman will now have to come up with some other trick to get out of his slump. 

After the game, Bregman was quick and to the point.

‘I just shaved it,’ he said.
