An adventurous kelpie has been reunited with her relieved family after she became trapped in an abandoned mineshaft in regional Victoria.
Macey was chasing rabbits on her family’s Blampied property northwest of Melbourne when she fell 12 metres down an old mineshaft, where she remained trapped for six hours before her family became aware of her tricky predicament.
A team of firefighters from Ballarat Fire and Rescue were called to the scene to help rescue the 12-month-old pup.

9 News cameras were there to capture the dramatic rescue where a firefighter was lowered down into the mineshaft as Macie’s family anxiously watched on.
Macey was placed in a gear bag before she and her rescuer were winched back up to safety and into the arms of her delighted owners.
‘She will sleep well tonight after spending six hours down the hole,’ owner Paul Martin told 9 News.

His kids were thrilled to be reunited with their beloved pooch, who was just as excited to see them.
‘They were like, ‘how are we going to get her out. We can’t leave her there’,’ Mr Martin said.
Despite the 12 metre drop, minor bruising was the only telltale sign of Macey’s traumatic ordeal.

‘We were actually surprised that when we got little Macey up, she didn’t have any obvious signs of bleeding, fractures or anything,’ Country Fire Association’s Wayne Martin said.
A broken fence around the mineshaft will now be repaired to avoid a repeated mishap.
