Over the weekend, both Roxy Jacenko and Elsa Pataky threw their children lavish birthday parties fit for royalty.
And they’re not alone, with thousands of parents across the country ditching daggy clowns and traditional ice cream cakes for extravagant themed set-ups complete with tents, towering cakes and enormous balloon installations.
Here, FEMAIL looks at the LENZO’s top children’s party trends of 2018 – and some handy tips for creating them on a budget.
‘Gone are the days of playing musical chairs and pass the parcel – today’s kids are now looking for bigger and better ways to be thrilled as they celebrate their new age,’ they said.

GENDER NEUTRAL AND EXTRAVAGANT THEMES
While the humble themed birthday party is nothing new, caregivers are taking the idea of a ‘theme’ to a whole new level, with food, outfits and decor all intricately planned ahead of the day.
And while fairies, mermaids and superheros are all still popular, monochromatic and ‘modern day teepee’ themes are also making their way into the mix.
‘Go intergalactic and out of this world with Feted Events’ totally unique galaxy-themed event or embrace the outdoors with a Wild West theme, complete with cactus piñata from Party Pony,’ the LENZO team said.
‘For those of us who don’t want to conform to stereotypes, gender-neutral themes – like the zoo or the circus – are timeless and work for both boys or girls.

BOLD AND BRIGHT
Pretty pastels and neutral colour palettes are big in the children’s party industry but eye-popping bright color palettes are bigger than ever for both girls and boys.
‘Kids are obsessed with colour, and what better way to celebrate their next birthday than with splashes of vibrant hues at every angle?’ The LENZO team said.
Standout parties include Emily from Hey Sugar Styling’s Trollz-inspired rainbow disco party that she hosted for her daughter’s birthday.
To bring the idea to life parents can incorporate colourful garlands from Ruby Rabbit, balloon installations from Boutique Balloons, and mumbo streamers from Poppies For Grace.

GLAMPING
Just like Elsa Pataky’s daughter, girls and boys are loving the glamping concept for a birthday party.
Whether it’s a bohemian outdoor spread or a teepee setup in the living room, this theme is the modern day version of a traditional sleepover.
‘Weather permitting, you can take advantage of the natural botanica to use as decorations and host a fun al fresco party in your backyard or even at your local park. Don’t have a large backyard? Transform your garage or lounge into the perfect setting – just use your imagination,’ they said.

BALLOONS, BUNTING AND METALLICS
Balloons are bigger than ever, with parents swapping standard helium balloons for enormous balloon installations, bunting and metallic decor.
‘Balloons have come a long way since being tied to ribbon and placed on the back of chairs,’ the LENZO team said.
‘An overarching balloon installation in the theme’s colours are a fantastic way to bring even more joy to a party. And, it’s even more special if they’re metallic! Team with bunting and garlands to create an impact that screams fun.’

COLOURFUL DRIP CAKES AND DESSERTS
Cakes and desserts are a great way to bring out a theme or colour scheme at a child’s party.
‘Drip cakes are still hugely popular, and offer an almost surreal effect. Plus, they taste just as good as they look – if not better! We are loving Sweets with Love’s dreamy cake and unicorn ice-cream pops by Baked Beauties,’ the LENZO team said.
