A look inside the charmed life of pub tycoon Justin Hemmes

Justin Hemmes is a very lucky man.

Debuting on the Australian Financial Review’s rich list this Friday with a jaw-dropping fortune of $951 million, the Sydney pub baron lives a charmed life with his stunning partner Kate Fowler and their two beautiful daughters.

The 45-year-old Merivale CEO and his family regularly enjoy extravagant European holidays and his breathtaking property portfolio, featuring a heritage-listed harbourfront home worth ‘more than $60 million’.

Justin was once described as a ‘playboy’ on Sydney’s social scene, linked to a several famous beauties including Lara Bingle and Natalie Imbruglia.

However, the ‘bar tsar’ has since settled down and is now a doting father to two young daughters with partner of four years, Kate.

Kate is the older sister of international model, Georgia Fowler, who famously walked the runway at Victoria’s Secret’s annual fashion show back in 2016.

First built back in the 1870s, the home has been in the Hemmes family for more than 40 years, having been bought by Justin’s late father, John, for $500,000.

In 2009, the home was reported to be worth around ‘$60 million’ according to The Daily Telegraph, but at the time Justin said he would not be interested in any offers below ‘$90 million’.

Last year, Kate celebrated her birthday on the lawns of the home, with a long table set up beneath white umbrellas.

The estate also features a cliff-top pool and an outdoor shower set among immaculately manicured gardens.

In addition to The Hermitage, Justin boasts a jaw-dropping property portfolio, having snapped up five pieces of real estate on the NSW South Coast, according to Property Observer.

The jewel in that crown is the 60-hectare estate, Glasshouse Rocks, which the pub baron affectionately nicknames ‘The Farm’.

The property was purchased for $7.5 million in 2015.

It appears Justin and Kate celebrated last Easter at one of the South Coast estates, with a series of gorgeous pictures posted to Instagram at the time.

The pair have also jetted off on lavish holidays to Europe, pictured wearing fluffy bathrobes whilst on board a private boat sailing around the Greek Islands.

In recent years, Justin has become widely known for changing the landscape of Sydney’s social scene more than any other businessman or woman.

His trendy venues are scattered across the city and include The Ivy, the Coogee Pavilion and the recently purchased Queen Victoria Hotel in Enmore.

Though he remains tight-lipped on his future plans, he has hinted his spending days in business are far from over.
