A cat owner allegedly locked her pet in her home without food or water and left it to starve for weeks.

The RSPCA was contacted after police spotted the feline with protruding ribs, spine and sunken eyes through a window of a property in Langford, Perth.

A neighbour interviewed by an animal welfare worker confirmed the cat’s owner had not been home for up to two weeks.

The Perth woman, 41, is accused of locking her cat in her house for weeks without food or water

A locksmith was organised in order to access the home.

The male ginger cat was found to be dehydrated, starving and locked in a bedroom.

‘Once inside, the inspector found the cat had been locked in a bedroom where there was no food or water, apart from some dry instant noodles,’ the RSPCA said.

An inspector took the feline to Baldivis Vet Hospital where it was later transferred to the RSPCA’s Animal Care Centre in Malaga.

The RSPCA confirmed the cat has since recovered.

The owner has been charged with animal cruelty for failure to provide food and water to her pet.

Fremantle Magistrate’s Court will hear the case on July 30.
