A sports nutritionist has shared her diet and exercise tips for sustainable fat loss in 2022.

In an Instagram post Sydney fitness guru, Meg Burke, said it’s time to say goodbye to fad diets.

‘Far too often people way over complicate the route to achieving their goals. You don’t need anything drastic. Just work on nailing the basics daily,’ she wrote.

Meg starts off by suggesting setting a goal for how much water to drink each day and make sure you hit it. 

‘Staying hydrated is essential for a weight loss goal, overall health, energy, performance, hunger, skin, digestion – the list is endless!’ she said. 

She said to focus on protein and not to cut out all the foods you enjoy in order to reach you weight goals. 

‘Focus on incorporating them into your diet in moderation and fuelling your body with enough calories 80% whole foods, 20% soul foods,’ she wrote. 

Meg said sleep is often overlooked but vital for improving energy levels, performance in the gym, hunger queues, as well as your overall mood. 

She recommends weight lifting as an exercise, finding a style of training your enjoy and to commit to weekly sessions.

‘Plan them in like you would an appointment. Focus on progressively overloading in your sessions,’ she said.

Finally, Meg said to make a ‘non-negotiable’ step target and hit it daily.

She said not to rely on the number on the scales to monitor progress but rather take pictures and measurements.
