A squirrel refused to leave the pitch at Etihad Stadium

  • The groundsman who finally caught the animal found the whole event hilarious

There was, rather bizarrely, a very stubborn squirrel on the loose at the Etihad Stadium prior to Manchester City’s Carabao Cup clash with Wolves.

It took groundsmen several minutes to remove the squirrel, who seemed rather content bounding around the pitch doing its best impersonation of Kevin De Bruyne.

The City staff first saw the animal by the corner flag and attempted to ease it off the pitch to safety.

But the squirrel was not obliging.

The groundsmen were chasing it back and fourth as the event went on for minutes before eventually one of them managed to lure the squirrel close enough to pick it up.

Catching squirrel’s certainly wouldn’t have been in the job description but he found it hilarious and laughed hysterically as he carried it off.

Now safe and squirrel free, Pep Guardiola will be hopeful his side can do a job on the pitch against high-flying Championship side Wolves and book their place in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
