A winter village with igloos and ice rinks is returning to Australia in May 2021

How you can visit an incredible ‘igloo village’ in Australia – complete with cocktail bars, hourly ‘snow fall’, ice skating rinks and LOTS of comfort food

  • An igloo village is bringing an icy wonderland to Australia for 3rd year running
  • Inspired by European markets, it will take place in five cities across the country
  • The village will feature ice rinks, cocktail bars, food stalls and a DJ booth
  • There’ll also be an enormous ‘mega’ igloo where it snows inside on the hour

An igloo village is bringing its frosty magic back to the Land Down Under this winter after drawing record crowds in recent years.

For the third year running, the Winter Village will transform five locations across Australia into icy wonderlands, where guests can eat, drink and skate on glistening ice rinks from a soon-to-be-announced date in May until the end of September.

Inspired by the winter markets that spring up in European cities such as Berlin and Prague each year, the attraction will feature a cosy igloo village, an enormous ‘mega igloo’ where it snows on the hour as well as a cocktail bar, food stalls and a DJ booth.

One of the sites is likely to be the Skyline Terrace at Melbourne’s Federation Square, where the event was held in 2019 when it was slated as the city’s ‘landmark winter destination’.

The 2019 event overflowed with festive decadence, from wine fountains spouting Shiraz and Rosé to pop-up restaurants serving grazing platters and fried cheese sandwiches.

A Facebook page for the village has already been liked by 85,880 users, which means tickets are almost certain to be in high demand when they go on sale.

A post teasing the 2021 launch, which has racked up almost 900 likes since it was posted on Wednesday, has drawn delighted responses.

‘We loved our experience here a few years ago,’ one woman replied.
