Manchester United have confirmed Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set for a ‘period on the sidelines’ after sustaining an injury in the final minutes of the defeat to Brighton.

Wan-Bissaka came off the bench in the 85th minute of Man United’s 3-1 home defeat against the Seagulls on Saturday.

The Red Devils confirmed the right back picked up an injury in the final minutes, which could see him ruled out for ‘several weeks’.

‘Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set for a period on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during the closing stages of Saturday’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion,’ a Man United statement read.

‘The right-back came on as an 85th-minute substitute, having started the game on the bench after battling illness during the week.

‘Further assessment will be needed to determine how long Wan-Bissaka will be out for, but initial indications suggest it will be several weeks.’

Man United supporters had expressed fears over an injury to Wan-Bissaka, after a video showed the full back limping after the match against Brighton.

Wan-Bissaka’s injury will come as another blow to Man United boss Erik ten Hag ahead of their Champions League group stage opener against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Wan-Bissaka is the latest defender to suffer an injury with left backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia unavailable, with centre back Raphael Varane also on the sidelines.

Midfielders Mason Mount and new signing Sofyan Amrabat are also among Man United players recovering from injuries.
