Abbie Chatfield slams celebrities who still go to horse races and Derby Day

Abbie Chatfield slams celebrities who still go to horse races and says she was offered ‘a LOT of money’ to attend but turned it down

Abbie Chatfield is no fan of horse races – and says she refused a significant payday to make an appearance at a racing carnival event.

The former Bachelor star posted to Instagram Stories, questioning why celebrities attended Derby Day at the Melbourne Cup Carnival over the weekend.

‘Guys I thought we were done with the races,’ the 27-year-old criticised in one video clip on Sunday.

‘I thought that wasn’t a thing anymore. Like, why are so many people going to the races. What the hell?’ she added.

Abbie then posted a second clip in which she said she had gotten ‘snarky comments’ from people who had asked her over DMs (direct messages) if she was even invited.

‘Yah, I was offered money to go. A lot of money, I said f**k the races’ Abbie ranted in the clip.

A cavalcade of big name celebrities turned out for Derby Day on Saturday, including actress Elsa Pataky, model Nicole Trunfio and television star Alison Langdon.

Model Simone Holtznagel, AFL WAG Tayla Damir, The Block star Sharon Johal, model Erin Holland and designer Pip Edwards were almost among the famous faces.

Horse racing has remained a controversial topic, with many branding the sport ‘cruel’ and critiquing the attendance of celebrities at race day events.

Abbie instead put in an appearance at the 2022 Australian Commercial Radio Awards in Sydney on Saturday night.

She was the belle of the ball in a lingerie-inspired ensemble worn with a frilly corset and sheer duster, but revealed she was all too happy to be at the event solo.

‘I’m not looking for a relationship at all. I want a year of single life,’ she told Daily Mail Australia at the event.
