ABC television host Todd Sampson to launch new documentary

Todd Sampson has made his mark spearheading thought-provoking docuseries. 

And the ABC television host is back with a new project – titled love + hate, the upcoming documentary will delve into ‘how the internet has polarised society,’ TV Tonight reported on Saturday. 

According to the publication, the 52-year-old will touch on neo-Nazis, far right extremists, anti-fascists and how single men deal negatively with dating apps.

The documentary is set to air on Channel Ten on a future date that is yet to be announced. 

The Gruen Nation host earlier tackled body image and its negative effects in his two-part documentary titled Mirror Mirror last year. 

The filmmaker admitted that his special contains some of the most emotional scenes he has ever filmed for a documentary – one of which brought him to tears.

‘A lot of the show is about mental illness. We start with the deep end of the story and then that story unfolds, both male female, with body dysmorphia, and someone getting diagnosed on screen,’ he said in an interview with TV Tonight. 

‘I had a huge cry. It was one of the more emotional moments I’ve ever filmed,’ he said. 

‘A young man, in his early twenties, being diagnosed with Body Dysmorphic Disorder, depression and anxiety, at a level of which therapists had never really seen before.’

One of the first subjects he interviews is ‘real-life Barbie’ Tara Jayne, who has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on plastic surgery.

‘I know everyone judges straight away, but she was a beautiful person and struggling on her journey. One of the conclusions of the film is we all suffer from body image issues. We’re on a spectrum and some are further down than others,’ he said. 

The special also looks at how pornography ties in with those issues, with Todd interviewing Married At First Sight star Hayley Vernon about her move to OnlyFans.
