Laughter lines of duty! AC-12 stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston smile on set as hit BBC show resumes production after six-month coronavirus break

You don’t usually get many laughs with the officers of AC-12 as they conduct their high-pressure, high-stakes investigations.

But Line of Duty stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston couldn’t disguise their glee at being back in uniform last week to film the sixth series of the acclaimed BBC police drama.

The stars were photographed on set in West Belfast as the show resumed production after a six-month break due to coronavirus.

In one dramatic scene, McClure’s character DI Kate Fleming is seen drawing her gun on a masked man as he gets out of his vehicle.

McClure last month said she couldn’t wait to get back to work with Compston, who plays DS Steve Arnott, and Adrian Dunbar, who as Superintendent Ted Hastings heads AC-12, the anti-corruption unit.

‘Been sitting on these incredible scripts for some time now, so I’m really looking forward to getting back to it,’ the 38-year-old said.

The cast and crew wore masks and protective gear to minimise risk from the virus.

Before Covid they were just four weeks into filming when forced to halt, but creator Jed Mercurio hopes the series could now be completed ‘by the end of the year’.

He also said a new character, Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, to be played by Trainspotting’s Kelly Macdonald, was ‘the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 have ever faced’.
