Activists arrested as Alyssa Milano leads Kavanaugh protests

Multiple activists have been arrested in Washington DC as actress Alyssa Milano led massive protests against Brett Kavanaugh on the eve of the high-stakes Senate hearing.

Demonstrators wearing ‘Believe Women’ t-shirts screamed and chanted on Wednesday outside the offices of several senators in protest over Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

Several women were arrested in the hall of the Dirksen Senate Office Building and outside the office of Alaska Republican Senator Dan Sullivan.

One of those women screamed for an end to rape as she was led away in restraints by US Capitol Police.

Activists also held up signs outside Maine Senator Susan M. Collins’ office in a bid to persuade her to vote against President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.

Alyssa Milano led protesters as they banged on the door of Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith to urge her staffers to listen to the stories of sexual assault survivors.

‘Open the door, hear the stories,’ the Charmed actress and fellow protesters chanted repeatedly.

Milano tweeted that she was in DC because ‘I don’t believe any man’s misogyny should take precedent over a survivor’s humanity’.

‘We tried to see (senators) Murkowski, Collins and Hyde-Smith today and share our stories of survival. They refused to see us.’

Milano’s appearance on Capitol Hill comes just days after revealing she was sexually assaulted 30 years ago but never reported the incident to authorities or told her parents because ‘justice was never an option.’

Protesters have been flooding Capitol Hill all week in support of Kavanaugh’s chief accuser Christine Blasey Ford.

Authorities are preparing for hundreds more demonstrators on Thursday when Senators head both Ford and Kavanaugh’s sides.

In testimony for Thursday’s Senate hearing, Kavanaugh has acknowledged drinking in high school with his friends, but says he’s never done anything ‘remotely resembling’ the sexual misconduct alleged by his chief accuser.

Two more women have come forward this week with allegations of sexual misconduct involving Kavanaugh.

Hoping the hearing will yield no new surprises, the Judiciary Committee scheduled its own vote on Kavanaugh for Friday.
