Actor Josh Lucas auditioned for Sex and the City SEVEN times

He has been successful on the big screen, appearing in many successful dramas and romantic comedies. 

But Josh Lucas revealed that early in his career there was one job he couldn’t land. 

The 49-year-old actor said he auditioned seven times for Sex and the City without ever being cast, while speaking with Access on Wednesday.

The Sweet Home Alabama actor sat down with the outlet to promote his upcoming movie The Secret: Dare to Dream. 

‘The thing that really gets me is I auditioned seven times for Sex and the City and never got it once,’ he said. ‘I was like, “C’mon, you guys know who I am!”‘ 

He also dished that early in his career he also auditioned to be on Dawson’s Creek once, though with no success. 

His The Secret co-star Katie Holmes starred in the series from 1998 until 2003.

Early in his career, he discussed the hunger he had for any projects.

‘Particularly if it was a good show, like Dawson’s Creek,’ Lucas continued. ‘Or Sex and the City, or something iconic, there are so many things like that I have years of…or sometimes I would say some pretty intense heartbreak.’  

And losing out to jobs hurt, though now he said he has a funny story, saying ‘Or you’re told you get it and then it doesn’t happen, or another actor, a more famous actor decides to take it away from you.’

‘I kind of have a funny one with Matt Damon,’ though he said ‘I don’t know if this is true.’  

Explaining the situation with the Good Will Hunting actor he said: ‘I had been hired for a voiceover job and I was really excited about because it was a really good voiceover job.’

He also said any hope of reuniting with his Sweet Home Alabama co-star Reese Witherspoon for a sequel is waiting on her to ‘pull the trigger,’ as she has since become a mogul and household name. 

Though Lucas reunited with the film’s director Andy Tennant on The Secret. 

‘It’s really why I did The Secret too. It’s the same director Andy Tennant…I get to work with him and the same DP we had from Sweet Home Alabama.’ 

‘There were these really wonderful flashback moments ,’ he said on set of his upcoming film as he reflected on nearly 20 years since Sweet Home Alabama.

The Secret: Dare to Dream will be available for streaming on Apple TV July 31 after it was scheduled for a theatrical release in April, before the coronavirus pandemic closed theaters. 

It stars Holmes as widow Miranda raising her three kids when handyman Brady (Lucas) brings joy to the family, though he has a secret. 

The film is based on the 2006 self-help book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
