It comes after UK broadcaster Channel 5 confirmed Home And Away was safe from cancellation after they axed fellow Aussie soap Neighbours following 37 years on-air.

The director of programmes, Ben Frow, said the show has a lifelong deal so it will only be cancelled should the creators choose to do so.

‘It’s a life-of-series deal, so it’s not going anywhere until the makers decide to cancel it,’ Ben told Radio Times last week.

He continued: ‘I think it will be interesting to see what we do with it as we evolve. There might be somewhere else to put it in the 5 spectrum.’

When questioned about the decision to axe Neighbours after 38 seasons, Frow said it was a business decision and the money will go towards other opportunities.

‘I could spend the money on other things, which is what I decided to do. I can better spend the Neighbours money on UK shows,’ Frow explained.

Home And Away has been on the air for 34 years and has always been in competition with Neighbours which was on the air for 37 years.

Both shows have been incredibly successful and the starting point for so many young actors such as Chris Hemsworth, Margot Robbie and Russell Crowe.
