Massive five-metre saltwater crocodile with blood around its mouth sneaks up on a man in his garden – and a barbed wire fence was the only thing that saved his life
- A massive saltwater crocodile has charged at a man as he tended to his garden
- He only narrowly escaped death after his barbed wire fence served as protection
- The crocodile had bloody teeth and a huge stomach after devouring a calf
- He believed the crocodile wasn’t able to climb the fence due to its recent meal
A five-metre crocodile with blood along its jaw after devouring a calf has stalked a man who was doing some gardening – with a barbed wire and a full belly perhaps the two things that saved his life.
The man was shocked when he turned around to see the massive crocodile pressed against the fence in Adelaide River, in the Northern Territory, with its mouth open.
A barbed wire fence and the fact the crocodile has just eaten a calf were the reasons the beast didn’t attack the defenceless man, NT News reported.

Darwin crocodile expert Grahame Webb said it was unusual for saltwater crocodiles to be wandering on land during the dry season in the Top End – which runs from May to October – and said it could have been on the move from a billabong that was drying up.
‘Sometimes at this time of year crocs that have moved out during the wet season into little billabongs or soaks, they suddenly dry up and they try to walk back to the river.’
‘They try to push through things, so I don’t know if he’s killed a calf but he could easily do that. If it’s killed a calf, it’s probably dismembered it, grabbed bits and thrown it around.’
