Adopted woman’s desperate search for teen mother in London

An adopted woman has launched a last-ditch effort to track down her birth mother who left her in the hospital more than 40 years ago thinking she would die.

Carolyn Jones, who now lives in Henderson, Nevada, was born at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington in 1973 three months early and weighing just 1lb and 10oz.

She was abandoned at the hospital by her mother Patricia Ross, who was around 19 years old at the time, after doctors told her the premature baby had little chance of survival.

Police tried to track down the mother by visiting her listed address – a squat in Westbourne Park, West London – but the occupants had never heard of Patricia.

And now the 44-year-old, who was adopted by a family from Maidenhead, Berkshire, who moved her to America, is trying to reconnect with her long-lost birth mother.

In a viral Facebook video that has been viewed more than one million times, Carolyn said: ‘My name is Carolyn Yvonne Ross. I was born on March 28 1973 at St Mary’s Hospital in London, England.

‘I only weighed 1 pound 10 ounces and was three months early. The doctor told my mom I would not survive so she left the hospital and never returned (thinking I died).

‘The police looked for her but never found anything. I was later adopted and moved to the USA in 1980.

‘I have tried EVERYTHING to find her. In the last 14 years I have tried to locate her [using] Google, two DNA tests, contacting a medium, hours upon Facebook… and private investigators.

‘I do not think she knows I am alive but here I am waiting, hoping, wishing every day. This is my last shot.

‘Her name is a very common one in the UK but someone has to know her. This is the info that was on my certificate: Patricia or Pat Ross from Newcastle Upon Tyne, approx. 19 yo in 1973.

‘Please, please share my story. Help my find my birth mom – the missing piece.’

She wrote: ‘I believe the only thing left is to go to the UK and search on foot, not from a computer – this trip would be my last hope.’

Carolyn told The Mirror: ‘I would desperately like to find my mother and tell her that I did survive and I am still alive.’

‘I’m Carolyn Jones now but she is still my mother and I kept the name she gave me all those years ago.

‘Of course I have lots of questions, such as if I’d survived would she have still given me up? There’s no father’s name on the birth certificate.’
