This is the adorable moment a sick Labrador grabbed her lead back and refused to leave the car in protest of her fourth trip to the vet in four days.

Riekie van Schalkwyk’s Labrador, Lexi, was on her fourth day of treatment when she refused to get out of the back of the car and enter the veterinary surgery, in Potchefstroom, South Africa on May 20.

Six-year-old Lexi had been diagnosed with pancreatitis, an illness when the pancreas swells up due to having too much fat in the diet, and had to undergo several blood tests and x-rays.

Though already familiar with the veterinary surgery due to suffering from epilepsy, this was the first time the cute hound had refused to attend an appointment.

In order to undertake the necessary treatment, staff at the veterinary clinic – called Bult Dierekliniek – were kind enough to see to Lexi’s appointment in the backseat of the car.

Riekie, 53, said: ‘Lexi started profusely vomiting, so I took her to the vets, where she was diagnosed with pancreatitis.

‘She had to stay on a drip for days and underwent many blood tests and X-rays.

‘By the fourth day, she instinctively knew where we were and gently tried to tell me that she had had enough, taking her lead out of my hand.

‘She had bloods drawn, daily smears were taken by pricking her ear, she received injections for pain and nausea and had a course of anti antibiotics – the poor thing probably felt like a pin cushion.

‘Lexi usually has her sister Chloe attend these appointments with her for moral support, as they are inseparable – but on this occasion, Chloe had to stay at home due to the duration of the appointment.

‘I tried all the tricks in the book in getting her out of the car before having to go inside and tell the vet about my dilemma.
