Adorable moment a parched possum joey munches on a piece of apple as she recovers after being rescued from a bushfire

  • The dehydrated possum was found with burns to her four paws and her mouth
  • She was rushed to a vet in Port Macquarie and was fed with apples and water 
  • Social media users praised the vet after the footage was uploaded online 

A dehydrated baby possum that was caught in the devastating bushfires is being nursed back to health after being saved by wildlife rescuers. 

The female marsupial was found on Fernbank Creek Road near Port Macquarie on the mid north coast of NSW at about 11am on Monday. 

She was rushed to the Port Macquarie Veterinary Hospital with burns to her paws and around her mouth, as well as a a damaged eye.

‘It was very dehydrated when it was brought into us,’ a spokeswoman from the veterinary hospital told Daily Mail Australia. 

‘She is regaining her strength with syringed water and is much more interested in food now than she was yesterday, even eating a little on her own.’ 

Adorable footage of a vet feeding the baby possum a piece of apple was posted to Facebook.

‘Heart breaking. Thank you for the love and care you give our precious wildlife,’ one wrote.

‘You are wonderful people! Thank you for taking care of this little fire victim,’ added another. 

A third wrote: ‘In the best hands. I hope the little darling makes a full recovery.’
