Adorable video shows kindergartners choose how they want to be met by ‘classroom greeter’

Students in a Wisconsin kindergarten classroom have a unique way to start the day off right.

Adorable video shows students in Nicole Schlappers class choosing how they’d like to be greeted each morning.

Mrs Schlapper added the role of ‘classroom greeter’ to the youngsters’ list of jobs in their classroom in Birchwood, Wisconsin.

Each morning, the children can choose to be greeted with a hug, handshake, wave, fist-bump, or a verbal ‘hello’, but Mrs Schlapper says that most of her 15 students choose to receive a hug.

Mrs Schlapper, who has taught kindergarten at Birchwod school since 2000, told Good Morning America: ‘The children absolutely love this job and show great excitement when their turn comes up.’

Video captured one morning in the classroom when five-year-old Colin Baker was assigned the role of ‘classroom greeter’.

It shows his classmates lining up and choosing how they would like Colin to greet them.

Most of his peers choose to receive a hug from Colin, while others choose to fist-bump and give a handshake.

His mother Chrisstie Baker told GMA: ‘I think most (of) the kids choose hug just because Colin is such a good hugger.

‘He puts his heart into every one. I’m very proud of him.’

Birchwood School District posted the video on their Facebook page with the caption: ‘What a great way to start the day!’

The video has received more than 1million views, with 32,000 shares, comments and likes.

Colin’s mother said she hopes that ‘adults can learn from him and his friends that it’s OK to get out of their comfort zone and make someone else’s day. And to put our all into even the smallest things, like a hug.’

Mrs Schlapper said she hopes the daily ‘small, simple gesture of friendship and kindness’ her students give each morning ‘will stay with them as they grow up together throughout their years, in school and into adulthood.’
