‘Adrian Chiles let himself go!’ Social media users poke fun at police appeal for burglary suspect

Social media users have poked fun at a police appeal which features a burglary suspect who ‘looks like Adrian Chiles’.

Kent Police asked for help identifying the alleged offender in a post about a crime in Hawkhurst on August 7.

But rather than help officers, social media users spotted a similarity between the E-FIT and television and radio presenter Chiles.

Users flooded the force’s posts on Twitter and Facebook with pictures of the 52-year-old former The One Show host.

Thomas Adams commented: ‘Adrian Chiles has let himself go.’

A Twitter user wrote: ‘I think you need to have a chat with @ITVSport lads.’

Another eagle-eyed Twitter user posted: ‘Check out Adrian Chiles? I’ve just looked in Radio Times and it looks like this was one of the few days he was not appearing on either TV or Radio.’

And one man added: ‘It’s Adrian Chiles and he has connections in the West Midlands. Hope this is helpful.’

Chiles spokesman has been approached for comment.

Last month, the Mail On Sunday revealed Chiles was dating Labour MP Rosie Duffield after interviewing her for BBC 1’s Panorama show.

The newspaper reported they had been seen around Westminster together and a source revealed the former Match Of The Day 2 presenter had been visiting the politician close to the Houses of Parliament.

While it is unclear how they met, in February Chiles visited Ms Duffield in her Canterbury constituency in Kent to interview her for a Panorama TV show he was hosting about Brexit.

The pair discussed Britain’s departure from the EU as part of the Brexit: Who’s In Charge? series.

One source said: ‘It’s the talk of the House of Commons, especially after they were seen together. They appear to be very keen on one another indeed.’

Chiles was married to Woman’s Hour presenter Jane Garvey for ten years but split in 2008.

Then, after meeting on his That Sunday Night Show in 2011, he began dating comedian Catherine Tate. But they separated in December 2013.

A political source said last month Adrian and Rosie ‘appear very happy together’.

The Kent Police post comes after it emerged a man who was dubbed a lookalike of David Schwimmer will face trial later this month accused of a string of fraud and theft offences.

Abdulah Husseini, 36, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing a wallet from a Blackpool restaurant and five charges of using or attempting to use a stolen Halifax bank card on 17 occasions when he appeared in Preston Crown Court in February this year.

The case made headlines when he was likened to the Friends’ star and his character Ross Geller after police released a CCTV image of the man holding a crate of beer in a supermarket.

It prompted Schwimmer, 52, to tweet a parody video with the words: ‘Officers, I swear it wasn’t me.’

Husseini, originally from Tehran, was arrested after Blackpool police launched an appeal for information following the theft of a wallet in Mr Basrai’s restaurant in the town on 20 September.

He denied one charge of theft at a hearing at Preston Crown Court in February.

He also denied five fraud charges of allegedly using or attempting to use a stolen Halifax bank card on 17 occasions in shops between 20 September and 5 November last year.

A brief administrative hearing was held at the same court on Thursday and he was due to face trial at South Cumbria Magistrates Court on 15 July.

The case made headlines around the world in October after social media users joked that he suspect looked like ‘Ross from Friends’ – with some even quoting the character’s most memorable lines from the US sitcom.

Schwimmer then posted a video to his Twitter account that showed him scurrying through a convenience store while holding a crate of beer and looking up shiftily at CCTV camera.

‘Officers, I swear it wasn’t me. As you can see, I was in New York,’ he also tweeted.

‘To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.#itwasntme.’

Hearing the case in February Judge Beverley Lunt said: ‘Is this the Ross from Friends case?’

Joe Allman, prosecuting, replied: ‘It is the one with the doppleganger your honour’.
