AFL 2022: Buddy and Jesinta Franklin back adult literacy campaign

AFL power couple Buddy and Jesinta Franklin back adult literacy campaign: ‘This needs to be spoken about’

Buddy and Jesinta Franklin are throwing their support behind a campaign close to their hearts.

The AFL glamour couple is backing The Australian Literacy & Numeracy Foundation’s Literacy is Freedom campaign to help adults with communications skills.

‘This needs to be spoken about. I honestly think a lot of people don’t realise there are Australians that are illiterate, which is really sad,’ Jesinta, 30, said on Wednesday.

‘All children should be able to read and write in this country. It should be the rule, not the exception,’ she told The Daily Telegraph.

‘Literacy is everything… it’s freedom, it’s confidence, it’s self-reliance, it’s autonomy.’

The Franklins have joined forces with other celebrities to support the campaign, including Casey Donovan, Asher Keddie, Tim Minchin, Adam Goodes, Michala Banas, Eddie Perfect, Tony Armstrong, Luke Carroll and Virginia Gay.

It comes after Jesinta revealed what life may look like for the couple when Buddy decides to hang up his football boots for good.

His nine-year $10million contract with the Sydney Swans expires at the end of the year.

The model, who shares two young children with Buddy, told Body+Soul earlier this month they had discussed leaving Sydney behind and moving interstate.

‘I think there’s still a lot of good football left in him, but it’s our dream, whether that’s in five years or 10 years or whenever, to be able to live closer to one of the grandparents and have quality time with them,’ Jesinta revealed.

While Jesinta did not reveal the exact location they plan on moving to, Buddy hails from Perth and moved to the small town of Dowerin, 150 kilometres northeast of Perth, with his parents and family at a young age.

He still has family residing in the area. Meanwhile, Jesinta’s family hails from the Gold Coast, Queensland.

New chapter: Jesinta, who shares two young children with Buddy, said the couple have already discussed leaving Sydney behind and moving interstate. Sydney Swans star Buddy kicked his 1,000th career goal at the Sydney Cricket Ground in March (pictured)
