The one night only return of the AFL Footy Show has been slammed by viewers as a ‘disjointed mess’ and a ‘joke’.
Fans flooded social media with criticisms aimed at hosts Eddie McGuire, who ‘stuffed everything up’ and Sam Newman, who was described as ’embarrassing’ during the Grand Final special edition of the show.
Rebecca Maddern, who was meant to co-host with the pair, was suffering from laryngitis and briefly appeared on the show holding a placard saying ‘a co-host with no voice’.

Despite Maddern’s omission pleasing some viewers, most viewers suggested the show’s return was anything but triumphant.
‘Anyone who didn’t watch this c**p is the real winner,’ one viewer noted.
‘I love Eddie but I hate to say The Footy Show is a disjointed mess. Can’t believe of the rubbish shown as ”highlights”,’ another wrote on Twitter.
Another said McGuire was ‘doing a great job stuffing everything up’.
‘Can’t believe anyone thought it would be any good. Sam Newman is embarrassing and the less said about Eddie McGuire the better,’ a third said.
Yet another wrote: ‘The magic and spark of this show disappeared years ago. Please lay it to rest once and for all.’
Newman copped a barrage of criticism after he unleashed on eco-warrior Greta Thunberg following her fiery address at the United Nations Climate Action Summit.
