News of her transition first made headlines two years ago after Victorian police officers leaked photos following her arrest for stalking and breaching a family violence order, which resulted in a good behaviour bond without a conviction or fine.

The former AFL player and coach later revealed for the first time the heartbreaking impact the leaking of the photos of her in custody in 2020 had on her children.

Cops leaked a photo of her wearing a wig and make-up while in a St Kilda police station, and the image soon went viral.

Victoria Police’s internal discipline board later ordered 11 officers, ranging in rank from constable to sergeant, to pay up to $3,000 to Laidley.

‘I’ve spoken to my son and he has been the greatest support,’ Laidley told KIIS 101.1’s Jase & Lauren.

‘Unfortunately, the scars that were left from the public photos and how it came out have cut them particularly deep, you know, it was taken away as us as a family to work through all those issues,’ Laidley said. ‘Unfortunately, my other two, they are still taking their time.’

She hopes her two daughters will eventually come around.
