AFL star Garry Sidebottom dies aged 64 after losing his battle with cancer

AFL star Garry Sidebottom has died aged 64 following a battle with cancer on Thursday.
The Australian rules football player had began and finished his career with the Swan Districts and played a total of 114 games for the team.
Sidebottom was an inductee into the Western Australia Football Hall of Fame in 2011, and was previously named in Swan Districts’ team of the century.
He also represented other teams including: St Kilda, Geelong and Fitzroy Football Clubs in the Victorian Football League in the 1970s and 1980s.
He was well-renowned for being a powerful and fearless player and often played in centre half forward and ruckman positions.
The Swan Districts Football Club paid tribute to Sidebottom in a public statement.
‘The Swan Districts Football Club wishes to offer its sincerest condolences to all the family, friends and supporters of one of our favourite sons, Garry Sidebottom who has passed away aged 64,’ the statement read.
‘Sidebottom was a member of one of the great families in the history of West Australian Football and the Swan Districts Football Club.
‘He will always be remembered as one of the club and state’s great characters and servants,’ the statement concluded.
