AFL star Sam Newman appears in good spirits as he clutches bottle of water and joins Shane Warne at Twilight Beach Polo in St Kilda


Sam Newman appeared to be enjoying himself as he attended a star-studded event on Saturday night. 

The AFL star posed for photos on the red carpet at the at Twilight Beach Polo ay Kilda Beach, Melbourne. 

The 76-year-old kept things casual, wearing a pale grey t-shirt along with a pair of checked shorts.

He completed the look with a pair of two-toned shoes, which he wore without socks, and had a soft bandage on one ankle.

It’s unknown what kind of injury the athlete is recovering from, however this sort of soft brace is usually used for soft tissue injuries. 

Sam held a bottle of water in one hand, and later posed alongside cricketer Shane Warne, 52, on the beach.

Shane opted for a black t-shirt worn with a pair of dark blue shorts, and held a pair of sunglasses in his hands. 

The appearance comes after Sam revealed his phone was inundated with matches after his friends unexpectedly signed him up to a dating app.

An online profile was created for the footballer by his sneaky pals last week in the hopes of finding a new love interest, months after the devastating sudden death of his beloved wife Amanda Brown, 50.

‘I had no idea this was happening,’ Newman said on his You Cannot Be Serious podcast, before confirming he’d shut down the profile shortly after. 

‘They put my age in and it immediately starts linking you to people in your area around the same age. 

‘My first date was going to be a woman in Upper Ferntree Gully in a retirement village who was 80 because I am 76.

‘And all these people between 75 and death came up with the app saying these are your compatible partners.’

Newman said he immediately shut the profile down after retrieving his phone. 

‘A friend of mine took my phone and put me on a dating app,’ Newman vented before describing the experience as akin to being ‘hacked’.
