AFP officer dies from gunshot wound in Melbourne

An Australian Federal Police officer has died from a gunshot wound inside Melbourne headquarters. 

The shocking incident took place at 9am on Saturday morning at the force’s La Trobe St base. 

An AFP representative said in a statement obtained by Daily Mail Australia that ambulance and police had responded to the tragedy.

She confirmed the AFP member was killed as a result of a gunshot wound. 

‘The incident remains under investigation and while this is being undertaken, including notification to family members, the AFP will not be making further comment at this time.’

The spokeswoman said there is no threat to the community. 

‘Victoria Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a person in Melbourne’s CBD this morning,’ Victoria Police spokeswoman Lauren Kells said.

‘The person received a gunshot wound while in a Latrobe Street building and died at the scene about 9am,’ she said. 

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.’

Only nine months ago a female AFP agent died in a non-suspicious shooting at the same building.
