Ajla Tomljanovic falls to Ons Jabeur in straight sets in the US Open quarterfinals as the last woman to ever beat Serena Williams is eliminated herself

Ajla Tomljanovic fell to No. 5 seed Ons Jabeur in the US Open quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon, losing 4-6, 6-7 after a gutsy win vs. Serena Williams in the third round.

Jabeur has earned a trip the Open semis for the first time in his career.

Tomljanovic led 5-3 in the second set but could not close the match out, as the Tunisian Jabeur eventually forced a tiebreak where she won 7-4.

The Australian also committed nine double faults in the match, and was broken on five occasions as well.

The quarterfinal run was an improvement on her third-round Open run from last year, and she also made the Wimbledon quarters earlier in 2022.

But the loss is a disappointing exit for Tomljanovic after she defeated Serena Williams 7-5, 6-7, 6-1 earlier in the tournament.

With the Open touted as the last tournament of Williams’ career, the 23-time Grand Slam winner enjoyed overwhelming home support over Tomljanovic (and her other two opponents) at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

However, after dropping the second set, the Aussie pulled the win out in a comfortable third set.

Jabeur will play next on Thursday, with a trip to the final on the line.
