Al Murray shocks Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley as he debuts a full head of hair and beard on GMB

‘Unobservant’ Susanna Reid fails to notice famously bald Al Murray has grown a full head of hair as comic reveals fans sent him ‘baldness cures’ when he played The Pub Landlord

Al Murray left the Good Morning Britain hosts in shock as he showed off his new look on Tuesday.

The comedian – famed for his Pub Landlord character – shaves his hair off for the role but debuted a full head of hair and beard for his TV appearance.

Speaking to Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley about his new look, the 54-year-old comic revealed that he’d been bald for so long that fans often believed he was incapable of growing hair and would send him ‘baldness cures’.

Yet while the look will have come as a shock to his followers, Susanna was left stumped after admitting she’d failed to notice the drastic transformation.

Interrupting their chat about the Spitting Image stage show, she suddenly mused: ‘I was thinking something was different about you and I was thinking it’s because you hadn’t shaved, but of course yes you have hair!’

Transformed: ‘Unobservant’ Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley failed to notice the famously bald Al Murray had grown a full head of hair when he appeared on Tuesday’s GMB

As Al started laughing, Susanna sarcastically quipped: ‘I am so observant.’

Richard confessed that he’d also not picked up on the change, admitting: ‘I was going to say “have you lost weight?” or something!’

Al responded: ‘People always say “have you lost weight?” and I get sent things on Instagram being asked “do you want baldness cures?” and things but I don’t need to.’

Richard then asked: ‘Do you ever feel you have created a monster you can’t escape?’ as Al said: ‘When I cut my hair off, yeah.’

Admitting he assumed the comic wore a bald cap, Richard exclaimed: ‘Oh so you actually cut your hair off? You don’t wear a bald thing?’

Susanna and Richard may not have noticed the change because Al first debuted a head full of hair in 2020.

The outspoken comedian left viewers stunned with hosts Susanna and Ben Shephard shocked as they commented on his new look.

Susanna said: ‘I can’t believe it, the last time I saw you the only hair you had on you was your eyebrows, what happened?’

Al explained: ‘I’ve got hair Susanna, I was due to go on tour so I had to cut my hair, but then that was obviously cancelled, so I could just let it grow.’

He quipped: ‘I look like the pub landlord has been locked in the cellar for a few months.’

The interview later descended into chaos, with Ben forced to reprimand Al after he made a rude gesture live on the show.

Al was unimpressed with the news that Tim Davie, the new Director-General of the BBC is reportedly trying to tackle a perceived ‘left-wing bias’ in the broadcaster’s comedy output.

He said ‘The thing is if people really want more right wing comedy they’re gong to have to vote for a left-wing government, whether you agree with it or not the job of a comedian is to cause mischief and say the unsayable, and also to flick Vs at the government.’

To demonstrate his point, he then stuck two fingers up at the camera, shocking the daytime hosts.
