Al Pacino admits he doesn’t play video games much while delivering an adorable speech

The crowd at the Microsoft Theater for The Game Awards were treated to quite the surprise when Oscar-winning actor Al Pacino took to the stage to present.

Host Geoff Keighley announced the 82-year-old actor was presenting the first award – Best Performance – which seemed to stun some in the crowd, including Best Performance nominee Manon Gage (Immortality).

The Scarface star – who was busy filming Billy Knight in Los Angeles back in October – was all smiles, taking to the stage in a black suit with no tie and a black scarf, as he told the crowd, ‘So cool! Thank you!’

‘This is… an experience for me, one I didn’t expect, but here I am,’ Pacino began with a laugh.

‘It may come as a shock to you but… I… it’s hard for me to see the teleprompter,’ Pacino added with a laugh.

‘But anyway, in truth, I don’t play a whole lot of video games, but I do… however, I have spent a lot of time watching my kids play them,’ he added, referring to 33-year-old daughter Julia and 21-year-old twins Anton and Olivia.

‘I’ve continued to be thoroughly impressed and entertained by the unique and immersive ways video games tell their stories,’ he said to applause.

‘And especially, naturally, by the performers, who help tell these stories, because, as an actor, I’ve learned that whether you’re on a stage or in front of the camera or inside an audio booth, always, fundamentally always, we’re the same,’ he said.

‘We are all trying to tell a story, in our way, with our kind of truth. I am honored to be here tonight to celebrate the achievements of these incredibly talented actors who, by breathing life into these stories, have helped elevate the medium of video games to a new height,’ Pacino said to applause.
