Alabama student expelled over racist video goes viral

The University of Alabama has expelled a racist sorority girl after a video emerged of her saying ‘get me away from these n****rs’.

The footage, shared on Instagram, shows an extremely drunk white girl sitting in the back of a car.

She tells her friend: ‘Get me away from these n*****s. Dude, like seriously, I didn’t mean to set myself up for this.’

The girl shooting the clip on her cellphone is heard shouting at the girl to ‘stop!’ But the drunk girl continues: ‘Oh god can they hear me? But seriously, those n****rs are gay!’ before busting out laughing.

‘We have learned of an offensive video involving racist language by a student who is no longer enrolled,’ he said.

‘We hold our students to a much higher standard than this. We are united in condemning this racist behavior and resolute in our commitment to ensure our students, faculty and staff know they are welcome, accepted and supported on our campus, and that discriminatory behavior will not be tolerated.

The student was named on Twitter as Cameron Dugger although the university refused to confirm whether that was correct.

The girl appears to have been a member of a sorority at the university.

Alabama Panhellenic Association President Lexi Matallana revealed they were planning a complete overhaul of the membership selection process to ensure the values and beliefs of candidates matched those of the sorority in the wake of the video.

Sorority girl Harley Barber, 19, has been thrown out of Alpha Phi and is being widely criticized online after posting two racist videos in which she gleefully repeated the N-word

They added that the sororities could also ‘expect to see a loss of social privileges for both on and off-campus social events’ including Greek Week and Homecoming. ‘This time should be used to reconsider the goals and identity of the chapter,’ she said.

The scandal comes just a couple of months after another girl was thrown out of her sorority, and expelled, for using racial slurs in Instagram videos.

Harley Barber, 19, made two videos in which she repeatedly used the ‘N’ word and boasted about being part of the Alpha Phi sorority.

She has since deleted her social media profiles but the footage circulated online, sparking widespread disgust and outrage.

In the first, Barber, who is originally from New Jersey, filmed herself in what looked like nightclub toilets.  Filming herself in the mirror, she turned off the faucet and said: ‘We do not waste water because of the poor people in Syria. We don’t waste water.

Harley Barber, 19, filmed herself on Monday night in two separate videos where she repeatedly used the N word

In the second video, Barber threatened viewers who criticized her first video and cursed at them for reporting her to her sorority. She repeated the N-word at least nine times in this video

Barber, above on social media photographs which have since been removed, was excluded by Alpha Phi after the videos surfaced.

‘I love how I act like I love black people because I f****** hate n*****s so that’s really interesting but I just saved the f****** n*****s by shutting that water off.’

That video quickly spread, with many leaving comments of criticism beneath it and threatening to report it to Alpha Phi. Undeterred, Barber posted another clip in response.

‘I’ve wanted to be in Alpha Phi since I was f****** in high school and nobody f****** understands how much I love Alpha Phi. And now someone wants to (inaudible) my finsta cause I said n*****. You know what?’

Barber then said the N-word three times, before professing: ‘I don’t care if it’s Martin Luther King Day.’  She then repeated it three more times as a group of girlfriends in a car with her laughed.

‘I’m in the South now, b****! So everyone can f*** off. I’m from New Jersey, I can say n***** as much as I want.

Alpha Phi released a statement after the videos spread in which they condemned Barber and confirmed she has been excluded.
