Dan Murphy’s and BWS will limit the amount of booze Australians can buy at their bottle shops because of people hoarding alcohol.

With pubs closed and misplaced fears that bottle shops are about to shut down in a future coronavirus lockdown, some Australians have been stocking up on booze.

Dan Murphy’s and BWS are both owned by Woolworths, which has already placed limits on supplies people can buy in supermarkets.

Dan Murphy’s will limit customers in all stores to 18 bottles of wine, three casks of wine, three cases of beer and cider and six bottles of spirits per transaction.

BWS customers will only be allowed to buy 12 bottles of wine, three casks, four cases of beer or cider and four bottles of spirits. 

The rules will apply in all states and territories except for Western Australia, which has already brought in stricter measures.

Liquorland, owned by Coles, hasn’t brought in any limits but will be putting more local produce on sale to help struggling businesses.
