Livid Aldi shoppers have slammed the supermarket after being left with ‘stomach turning’ and ‘rancid’ turkeys.

The furious customers have criticised the budget store on social media, with some saying their ‘spoilt’ turkey had ruined Christmas.

A number of the shoppers said they were surprised to find the turkeys ‘rotten’ as they claimed they were well within the sell by date.

On Twitter Louise Daley said: ‘Just opened our Aldi turkey to prepare it for the big day, only to find it has gone off!! @AldiUK I will be requesting a full refund.’

And another shopper said: ‘Randid Turkey, thank goodness I opened this morning to prep, vile, had to replace elsewhere on Christmas Eve. Never again Aldi. I’m furious.’

H J Davies, tweeted: @AldiUK well just opened my ALDI fresh turkey to cook, and it stinks to high heaven, totally off, too late to take back and too late to buy another…Merry Xmas ALDI.’

Another social media user said: ‘@AldiUK bought a turkey on Friday with use by date 26th, kept at correct temp, opened it to roast this morning and it was rotten and stank of rotten meat!

‘Returned to nearest store, didn’t even get so much as an apology, spent more than I needed to buy a crown #Rotten.’

It is not clear from the tweets what stores the turkeys were purchased from or which specific turkey product it was.

An Aldi spokesperson told The Sun: ‘We are sorry that, in a small number of instances, we did not meet our usual high-quality standards.

‘Customers can return any product that they are not satisfied with to their nearest store for a full refund, or alternatively contact our customer services department.’

MailOnline has also contacted the supermarket for comment.
