Alec Baldwin uses a cane to help him walk as he’s seen for first time since hip replacement surgery

Alec Baldwin revealed that he was using a cane to help him get around during an outing in New York City on Friday.

It was the first time that the 65-year-old actor had been seen in public since he underwent hip replacement surgery late last month.

His wife Hilaria Baldwin, 39, shared a photo of him recuperating in a hospital bed after the surgery, which she said had been ‘long time necessary.’

Despite needing a cane, the Beetlejuice actor — who doesn’t appear to be reprising his role in a sequel to that 1988 comedy — looked as if he was able to stay active in the wake of his medical issues.

Baldwin was using a forearm crutch, which includes a cuff that goes around his forearm and a handle that juts out horizontally from the metal shaft.

The design offers improved stability compared to a traditional cane, and it also helps to dispute weight more evenly.

The Departed actor kept his look fairly casual for the brief outing with a charcoal button-up shirt.

He left several buttons at the top undone, revealing his black T-shirt underneath, and he wore his left sleeve unbuttoned so accommodate the crutch’s arm cuff.

He paired his shirt with black trousers and shiny black leather penny loafers.

Baldwin was also seen carrying a thin black jacket in his free hand, and he wore his salt-and-pepper hair slicked back and swept to the side.

He previously seemed to be in good spirit when his wife revealed that he surgery was successful in late May.

‘Alec got a new hip today…it was a long time necessary,’ the mother of seven of Baldwin’s eight children wrote in her caption while posing next to him while he still wore his hospital gown.

She noted that the surgery was necessary to help improve his ‘quality of life.’

‘We have been through so much together … as your partner and as you heal, I want so very much for you to leave this very intense chronic pain chapter behind,’ she added, before thanking his nurses, doctors and other people who would care for him after the operation.

The lovebirds share seven children — Carmen, nine; Rafael, seven; Leonardo, six; Romeo, five; Maria, two; Eduardo, two; and Ilaria, eight months — while Baldwin also shares his eldest daughter, 27-year-old Ireland Baldwin, with his ex-wife Kim Basinger.

Despite his recent health issues, the fallout from the deadly set of Baldwin’s Western film Rust continued even as he recuperated.

On June 1, a judge approved a settlement he had reached with the son of the film’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was shot dead on set. The settlement had been reached back in October but was delayed until a judge approved it.

The results of the settlement for the child were kept confidential.

Hutchins was killed when a gun held by Baldwin discharged during a rehearsal on set, and the blast also injured the film’s director Joel Souza, though he survived his injuries.

Baldwin has maintained that he never pulled the trigger on the gun, which should not have had live ammunition placed in it at any point in the production.

In April, prosectors in New Mexico dropped involuntary manslaughter charges that had been filed against Baldwin.

The charges were dropped after a new prosector reviewed evidence indicating that the gun could have fired without the trigger being pulled, according to The New York Times.
