Alejandro Garnacho is SLAMMED by Spanish media for his ‘very poor taste’ after mocking Pedri’s glasses celebration after Man United’s Europa League win over Barcelona – with the teenager angering fans by claiming ‘the big team went through’

  • Garnacho mocked the Barca midfielder’s celebration after the full-time whistle
  • Spanish media were furious and said he showed ‘poor taste’ after his conduct
  • Pedri, a key player for Barcelona, missed the game through injury on Thursday

Alejandro Garnacho has been slammed by the Spanish press following Manchester United’s 2-1 against Barcelona after he mimicked injured Pedri’s trademark glasses celebration at full time.

The 18-year-old was a second half substitute in the match at Old Trafford on Thursday in a dramatic game that saw the Red Devils dump the Spanish giants out of the Europa League.

He had a positive impact on the game as United came from 1-0 down on the night to win 2-1 and 4-3 on aggregate.

After full time, however, he performed Barca star Pedri’s iconic celebration in creating glasses with his hands up to his face, before posting an image of the taunt on Instagram with the caption: ‘The big team advanced to the next round.’

Pedri missed the game through injury, with Barca boss Xavi suggesting afterwards that the game would have been different if he was fit.

Mundo Deportivo, we well-renown Spanish newspaper, suggested the post was ‘in very poor taste for an 18-year-old boy who hasn’t been in elite football for very long’, while many Barca fans were left angered.

Garnacho has only made 28 appearances for the United senior side, scoring three times, though he is reportedly close to signing a new five-year deal with the club.

It’s not the first time the celebration has been mocked, with Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich doing the same thing earlier this season.

Once rivals at the elite level, Bayern beat the LaLiga leaders 3-0 in the Champions League group stage in October and Kimmich performed the jibe at full time.

United, meanwhile, will now face another Spanish side in the next round in Real Betis after the draw was completed on Friday.

Fellow English side Arsenal, who lead the Premier League, were drawn against Sporting.

Both teams are among the favorites to lift the trophy towards the end of the season.
