A newlywed fitness fanatic who trained his way through a harrowing six months of chemotherapy after contracting a deadly cancer has competed in the World CrossFit Games.
Alessio Angelucci was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2017 after doctors discovered a huge tumour on his lower back that he thought was a sporting injury.
The 29-year-old from Narrabeen on Sydney’s northern beaches also had growths in his neck and chest and said training throughout the treatment helped him mentally as well as physically.

‘I felt pretty rough through the chemo,’ he told The Daily Telegraph.
‘The training helped me feel normal and sane when I was a bald guy without eyebrows.’
Mr Angelucci along with fellow teammates Harriet Hobbs, 28, of Balgolwah, Harry Woolford of Allambie Heights, and Dominique Johnson of Brookvale, both 27, travelled to the 2018 CrossFit Games in Madison, Wisconsin.
‘Sometimes he would come in and was quite sick, he looked yellow. His attitude helped motivate us all,’ Mr Woolford said.

The team competed alongside thousands of other athletes from across the world in the games which came to a close on Sunday.
Although they did not finish in the top 50, competing in the world class event is a huge accomplishment for the team that train at CrossFit Athletic, in Brookvale near Sydney’s northern beaches.
