Alex Morgan admits being pregnant with her daughter reaffirms equal pay battle

Alex Morgan admitted being pregnant with her unborn daughter has reaffirmed her mission to fight for equal pay.

The 30-year-old U.S. Women’s Soccer Team captain, who announced her pregnancy in October, has been fighting for equal pay in her sport alongside other prominent team members including Megan Rapinoe.

Although the fight has turned into a tougher battle than expected, with the women suing the U.S. Soccer Federation, Morgan remained hopeful about what she was ‘fighting for’ in the end.

‘Having a daughter on the way really validates everything that I’m fighting for,’ she told E! News. ‘It really makes me feel like I really am truly setting up the next generation for even greater success than we’re able to attain.’

Morgan, who is around four months pregnant, also said she and her husband, Major League Soccer player Servando Carrasco, were ‘learning a lot and soaking it all in’ with the pregnancy.

Just last week, Morgan revealed her intentions to play in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The event will happen just three months after her due date of April 2020, but the star said she is prepared to return to the pitch and represent the U.S.

‘It’s my goal to play [in the Olympics],’ Alex told Reuters. ‘It’s clearly a short window but if I’m able to, I want to be there representing my country.’

She continued during a press conference: ‘I hope to get back on the field as soon as possible. After having a healthy baby I want to get back with the national team and I look forward to playing in Tokyo.

‘There’s so many women that have been able to come back to their respective sport after pregnancy and continue to have a successful family while playing the sport that they love at the highest level,’ she added.

‘And I plan to follow in those footsteps and be one of those women who have a family and carry my daughter around as I’m going to the next city to play. And I still want to continue to enjoy the sport that I’ve been playing for all my life.’

Staying focused: During the event, Morgan revealed she intends to play in the 2020 Olympics if possible. The event will happen just over three months after giving birth to her daughter

Morgan and her husband announced the news they were expecting their first child on October 23 by sharing pictures of the couple together on the beach.

‘We are already in love and we haven’t even met her yet. Newest member of the Carrasco family, coming soon,’ Morgan wrote at the time.

She and her husband held a baby onesie that read ‘ready or not’ across the front.

Also in the image was a letter board announcing the couple would be having a baby girl in April 2020.

Morgan then recently showed off her tiny baby bump by attending the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday wearing a silver sequined dress.

The long-sleeved dress plunged at the neckline and fit around Morgan’s growing baby bump as she went on stage to present singer Pink with an award for People’s Champion of 2019.

Flaunting her baby bump during the awards show came after she first showed it off when she helped to open — and christen — a new mini field in Gardena, California, on Tuesday that is aimed at giving people in the local community a safe space to enjoy and practice the sport.

‘I am newly pregnant, I have the time for this because I’m not training as much as I was,’ the soccer player revealed at the event, which was hosted by the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Safe Places to Play program. ‘But I still am training a bit.’
