Alexis Sanchez blasts Arsenal legends who criticised him

  • Alexis Sanchez posted a statement after securing Manchester United move
  • The Chile ace took to Instagram on Monday where he criticised Arsenal legends
  • Ian Wright was one who suggested the forward had ‘clocked off’ at the Emirates
  • Sanchez’s statement sat alongside a compilation video of his Gunners highlights

Alexis Sanchez finally became a Manchester United player on Monday night and hit back at the critics who claim his move was driven by greed.

Sportsmail pundit and former Arsenal favourite Martin Keown is among those who have branded Sanchez a mercenary after he chose United over Manchester City on a four-and-a-half-year contract worth a total of £600,000 a week.

But Sanchez believes he is no different from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who left the club for Barcelona in 2007 to fulfil his ambitions.

Alongside his statement, which thanked technical and medical staff as well as his Arsenal team-mates, Sanchez included a compilation video which showed a number of highlights from his three-and-a-half years at the club.

It begins with the on-pitch celebrations after Arsene Wenger’s side lifted the Community Shield last summer having beaten Chelsea on penalties.

Although he played no part in the Wembley showpiece, Sanchez is all smiles in the video and despite animosity from pockets of supporters regarding his move, his Instagram statement aimed to reflect the happier times for him in an Arsenal shirt.

ALEXIS STATEMENT

I want to say thanks to the Technical Staff, to the medical team and all teammates with whom I shared many nice things for the club and especially those people who do not see themselves on the covers, but without them nothing would be possible, which are there to prepare food for us and take care of us day by day, those who keep our shoes clean and the grass in the best conditions. Many thanks to you for helping us to improve every day. Thank you very much .

There are people (former club players) who have spoken with no knowledge of what happens inside the club and cause damage. I must say I always gave 100 per cent, until the last day, when I asked to the Mister to be in the team, because I wanted to be a contribution.

I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn.

Thanks for everything Gunners! All we achieved and the good moments that I gave to the club, I want to dedicate it to the fans, they are the most important. Thanks for every time you sing Alexis Sanchez Baby

The move to Manchester United which has seen him and Mkhitaryan swap places has seen many Arsenal legends take issue with the player’s decision.

Ian Wright was one dissenting voice who suggested Sanchez ‘clocked off’ as he pushed for a move away since the summer window.

Speaking before Sanchez was confirmed as United’s new No 7, Wright told BBC 5live: ‘He’s not putting in a shift. (Philippe) Coutinho wanted to leave; he put in a transfer request but look at the way he’s playing.

‘It does look to me like he’s clocked off.’
