Alfie Lamb’s grandmother Janis Hoare says daughter Adrian has broken her after early prison release

The grandmother of a toddler crushed to death by his mother’s boyfriend says she will ‘always feel hatred’ towards her despite her early prison release.

Three-year-old Alfie Lamb was in the footwell of the Audi A4 when evil Stephen Waterson slammed his chair into him in south London on February 1 2018.

He was jailed for manslaughter, but the little boy’s mother Adrian Hoare was sentenced for child cruelty and assault.

The 24-year-old mother was released from prison 18 months early in October after only serving a year behind bars.

Despite her release her heartbroken mother Janis, 53, is still unable to forgive her daughter.

She told The Sun: ‘I will always feel hatred towards her for what she’s done. She has taken everything from me. Adrian has literally broken me.’

Janis Hoare-Templeton, 53, of Chatham, Kent is still unable to forgive her daughter Adrian, 24, over the death of her grandson Alfie, three, in south London in February 2018

Her daughter, who was originally jailed for two years and nine months, is now living in a bail hostel 100 miles from where her family live in Chatham, Kent.

She is trying to move on with her life and is working at a McDonald’s restaurant.

But her mother is still devastated and struggles to speak to her on the phone for more than 10 minutes.

She told the newspaper she doesn’t believe her and her boyfriend, 26, who is the adopted son of former Conservative Party minister Nigel Waterson, regret what they did.

She added: ‘The hardest thing at this time of year is going out and seeing little kids out telling their nannies what they want, and that they want to go to see Father Christmas.

‘He should still be here and we should be doing those things together.’

Mrs Hoare won’t be spending Christmas with her daughter, unable to come to terms with what she did.

She is going to put up a Christmas tree, but only because Alfie helped her pick it out years ago, she added.

The 53-year-old has been unable to work since her grandson’s death almost two years ago and has battled depression ever since.

Stephen Waterson, 26, was jailed for manslaughter

But in an interview with MailOnline this week, her daughter Adrian said she wants to ‘restart her life’.

She pins all the blame on her twisted ex-boyfriend Stephen after he slammed the seat back onto Alfie after a shopping trip because he wouldn’t stop crying.

She said: ‘To me, he’s the one that moved the chair.

‘In my head, I blame him more for what’s happened. I was trying to get him to move the chair. I couldn’t have moved the chair myself.

‘He should’ve been in a seat, but where Stephen had kicked off and we knew we weren’t going to get him to calm down, we got in the car just to stop him having a go at us.

‘I blame it entirely on Stephen. I wouldn’t say it’s me that caused it to happen.’

As tears filled her eyes, she described Alfie as a ‘bubbly little boy’ who was full of energy and a ‘funny little character’.

She said: ‘I loved him. It’s hard. I fell pregnant and I wasn’t getting rid of him. I wanted him.

‘We had a really good bond. He was everything to me. I was with him every day. I saw all the little changes in him as he was getting older. For that to just be taken away is horrible. I think about it every day.

The three had been out on a shopping trip with friends in Sutton when Waterson began crushing Alfie, saying he would ‘not be told what to do by a three-year-old’.

It caused crush asphyxia and Alfie died of a heart attack days after the sickening incident.

Hoare was cleared of manslaughter in February this year, but a jury found her guilty of child cruelty and assault, and she had earlier admitted perverting the course of justice by lying to cops.

She was jailed for two years and nine months in May, but was released early from HMP Bronzefield in Ashford, Surrey, on October 11.

At first, a jury failed to reach a verdict on Waterson’s charge of manslaughter by gross negligence, and a retrial was scheduled – only for him to admit it in September.

In November this year, he was sentenced to five years and six months for the manslaughter and further two years and 18 months for intimidation and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
