Alice actor Philip McKeon dies, age 55, after battling longtime illness

Former child star Philip McKeon – most famous for playing Tommy Hyatt in CBS’ Alice – died, age 55, in Texas on Tuesday morning after battling a longtime illness.

‘We are all beyond heartbroken and devastated over Phil’s passing,’ family spokesman Jeff Ballard said in a statement to People.

‘His wonderful sense of humor, kindness and loyalty will be remembered by all who crossed his path in life.’

The news came a month after Philip’s famous sister Nancy wished him a happy 55th birthday to her 40K Instagram followers.

‘It’s been a tough time lately,’ the 53-year-old Facts of Life star ominously wrote on November 11.

‘But as we’ve always said, we’ll get through it together.’

McKeon was survived by their mother Barbara and Nancy, whom he cheered on via Facebook last year as she competed on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.

Phil’s final acting role was in the 1994 straight-to-video horror flick Ghoulies IV following guest spots on CHiPs, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, and Amazing Stories.

But the 6ft3in blond – who started acting age 2 – ended his showbusiness career co-producing John Maybury’s 2005 drama The Jacket starring Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley.

The New York-born actor also worked in the news department at Los Angeles radio station KFWB News 980 for a decade before relocating to Wimberly, TX.
