Alisson has been named the Goalkeeper of the Year after winning the Yashin award during the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday night.

The trophy is named after Lev Yashin who is the only goalkeeper to ever win the Ballon d’Or in 1963. 

The Liverpool star won the Champions League and the Copa America with Brazil in 2019.

Four Premier League-based players were in the running for the ‘keeper award, with Alisson, Manchester City’s Ederson, Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris. 

The six other candidates included Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, Inter Milan’s Samir Handanovic, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, Ajax’s Andre Onana, Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. 

Also on the night, Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt won the Kopa Trophy for the world’s best player under the age of 21.

De Ligt was one of 10 nominees, including Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, PSG forward Kylian Mbappe and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic.

The centre-back enjoyed a fine season for Ajax in 2018/19 before joining Serie A side Juventus in a £67.8 million deal in the summer.
