All Black star posts 9/11 Twin Towers conspiracy theory online comparing them to Grenfell Tower fire

An All Blacks footy star has shared his controversial opinion on the 9/11 terrorist attacks, comparing them to the Grenfell Tower disaster.

Lima Sopoaga took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York which killed thousands of people on September 11, 2001.

‘Makes you think that if Grenfell burned for a few days and never collapsed. How did the twin towers collapse because of a fire?’ the player asked of his 25,000 followers on Sunday night.

He also criticised the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle saying ‘they had money for a royal wedding but no money to help the people of Grenfell Tower? The [f**k is] up with that!’. 

Sopoaga was watching a documentary on the disaster on Sunday night when he posted his tweets.

‘Anyone else watching this Grenfell Tower documentary on TV #SoSad,’ he tweeted.

Sopoaga’s followers pointed out what they felt were flaws in the player’s logic.

‘Leave thinking about serious issues to people with the I.Q. of more than a rocking horse,’ one follower said.

‘Grenfell didn’t have a plane hit it first,’ another posted.

‘Not sure you are going to make the London Wasps pub quiz team,’ one person said. Sopoaga signed a two-year contract to play for Wasps at the end of the 2018 season.

The attacks against the United States on September 11 killed almost 3,000 people and injured more than 6,000 others.

Both the North and South towers of the World Trade Center collapsed within an hour and 42 minutes after being hit by airplanes.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology in the United States found the aircraft impacts and fires led to the collapse of the towers. 

The Grenfell Tower fire caused 72 deaths after it broke out in June 2017. The fire burned for almost 60 hours before it was extinguished.

Emergency services believe the fire was caused by a malfunctioning fridge, and its rapid spread was due to the type of cladding used on the exterior of the building.

Sopoaga is known for being outspoken on social media, having been involved in a stoush with Cleveland Cavaliers NBA player J.R. Smith on Instagram.

Smith posted a photo of a van full of money with the question: ‘What lesson do you teach your child?’, to which Sopoaga replied: ‘Daddy will all this money buy you a jump shot to help [LeBron James] in the finals?’.

‘Who are you? Again?,’ Smith replied.
