This is the incredible moment a Namaqua chameleon tucks into his lunch after flicking out its tongue to catch the tasty treat.

The reptile was pictured in the Namib Desert in southern Africa when saw the delicious looking fly and decided it was going to be its next meal.

It is then seen to reel the fly into its mouth before posing for a shot of the helpless insect in its mouth.

Photographer Kurt Mueller, 75, from Zurich had been shooting the chameleon for less than 10 minutes when he captured this fleeting moment.

Kurt said: ‘It’s quite rare to be in the right place at the right time for a picture like this. It was a great stroke of luck.’

According to Kurt, the lizards tongue would have been about 15 to 20 centimetres and the lizard itself was around 25cm long.

Kurt said: ‘It all happened in a flash. Within the blink of an eye.’
