Amazon boss Bezos claims Trump has a ‘personal vendetta’ against him

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos strikes back at Trump claiming he has a ‘personal vendetta’ against him

Amazon has claimed President Trump put pressure on the Pentagon to deny it a valuable contract because he has a ‘personal vendetta’ against Jeff Bezos.

In a lawsuit, the tech giant alleged Trump views its boss Bezos as his ‘political enemy’ and made sure the company did not win the £7.6billion cloud computing contract – despite being the best firm for the job.

Amazon was widely expected to win the Joint Enterprise Defence Infrastructure – or JEDI – contract for cloud computing, which keeps computer data stored remotely.

But it was awarded to rival Microsoft in October instead.

Trump has repeatedly launched attacks on 55-year-old Bezos, who is the richest person in the world.

The entrepreneur also owns the Washington Post, a newspaper – which Bezos bought in 2013 – that has researched and criticised the President and his team since he won the 2016 election.

A spokesman for the US Department of Defence said: ‘There were no external influences on the source selection decision.’
