Horrified Amazon shoppers have complained to the retailer after allegedly spotting a bag for sale containing ‘a photo of a child with tape over its mouth’.

Eagle-eyed customers say they noticed the ‘disturbing’ image inside a Dallas Cowboys sports bag on Tuesday and began flooding Amazon with complaints.

The picture shows the sports bag with its zip partially open, to show customers the product’s inner lining.

But instead the ‘horrifying’ photo appears to show part of a child’s face with the eye looking out.

Other customers suggested the child’s mouth appears to have tape over it.

The photo appears to have been deleted since, leaving just two photographs showing the sports bag fully closed.

But the product remains listed as ‘currently unavailable’ with sellers The Northwest Compnany.

Laura Harper from Kingston Upon Hull in East Yorkshire was one of the horrified customers to complain to Amazon and even shared screenshots of the product on social media.

She posted the product listing on Amazon’s Facebook page, saying: ‘Are you s****** me?’

The 30-year-old had been alerted to the images by others on social media and after checking herself, she saw the photos online.

Ms Harper said: ‘I clicked on the link and that’s when I found the photos.

‘I screenshotted and posted them to the Amazon Facebook page, wanting an explanation and within ten minutes, the photo in question had been removed and the product was listed as ‘unavailable’.

‘I was disgusted. There’s a few conspiracy theories but I think it must be a very sick joke.’

A 33-year-old mother said she had a similar experience when searching for a school bag for her son.

The mother from Glasgow, who did not wish to be named, spotted the photo of the sports bag yesterday.

She said: ‘I was horrified by it.

‘I took screenshots straight away and got in touch with Amazon through live chat.

‘Whilst I was on live chat to customer service I searched for the item again and it had been removed.

‘I sent the screenshots to Amazon who assured me it would be investigated, but had no idea how it got on there or why it was on there.’

Other shoppers are reported to have since come forward with similar reports.

Virginia Lyszczar wrote to Amazon saying: ‘I would like to report a seller, can you please check this out? Particularly picture number two, it’s disturbing.’

Naomi Carnahan said: ‘Explain why there is a child with a taped mouth in this pack back?’

MailOnline has contacted Amazon and The Northwest Company for comment.
