American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina and fiance Alex Hopkins announce split after six month engagement
Singers Lauren Alaina and fiance Alex Hopkins announced they have split up, six months after getting engaged.
The former couple, who had been together for six years, released a joint official statement on their social media platforms.
‘We ask for grace, compassion, and respect in this time,’ Alaina, who was an American Idol runner-up in season 10, wrote in her caption. ‘I don’t regret a single second with Alex. I wish him the very best. Please do the same.’

In the joint statement, the high school sweethearts thanked all their fans and followers for their support during good times and bad: ‘You share your lives with us, and we always want to be open with you in return.’
It was at this point that they revealed they had called off their engagement.
‘While we still have love for each other, we’ve grown into very different people over the last six years. We are now in a place where we are each looking forward to starting our own fresh, new chapters of our lives,’ they said.
‘We both love and respect each other and hope you all will do the same. This has not been an easy decision, but we both feel it is the right decision. Thank you always for your love and support.’

‘As badly as we wanted to make it work, and as hard as we fought to stay together, she and I just weren’t a part of each other’s perfect plan for our individual lives. And that’s ok,’ he said with obvious emotion.
‘She and I get to focus solely on ourselves and our different futures for the first time since high school. Sometimes what we want and what God has for us is 2 totally different things.’
He ended with: ‘Just trust that no matter the outcome, everything works out for the betterment of your life.’

The former couple started dating in July 2012, and eventually got engaged in July 2018.

After her stint on Idol, the Georgia native released her debut country album, Wildflower, in 2012, which was followed up in 2017 with the record, Road Less Traveled.
Hopkins is also a singer and songwriter, who is best known for his album, Rush, and his song, Hold Me.
