American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson set to join The Voice

Breakaway! American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson set to join rival talent show The Voice… despite singing competition show’s ABC return

Kelly Clarkson will join NBC’s The Voice as a coach for season 14 in spring 2018.

The pop star, who found fame after winning American Idol’s first season in 2002 and had been rumored for the ABC reboot, will join longtime coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine on NBC’s talent competition,Variety reported on Thursday.

A fourth coach has yet to be set.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus are already confirmed to be joining Adam and Blake this fall for the 13th season.

The timing is right: Kelly Clarkson has signed on as a coach for season 14 of NBC’s The Voice, due to begin next February. Here she’s seen at SiriusXM radio in New York in December

The producers have been trying to get Kelly on to The Voice for some time.

But, until now, the busy 35-year-old star hasn’t been able to fit the talent show into her work schedule.

It’s something of a coup for The Voice as Kelly had been asked to join ABC’s reboot of American Idol, the show that catapulted her to fame when it aired on Fox. The network cancelled it last year.

‘I’m so excited to join The Voice at NBC,’ the Since U Been Gone singer said in a statement.

‘We’ve gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn’t been right until now.

‘I have always loved appearing on the show as an adviser or performer and established an amazing relationship with the network during my Christmas special.

‘I can’t wait to turn my chair and see the faces of up-and-coming artists and provide them with the help and support they’ve needed to break into the industry. Watch out Shelton, I’m comin’ to win!!’
