American Music Awards 2019: Worst dressed stars on red carpet

It’s not easy to stand out on the red carpet at the American Music Awards.

But A-list stars Christina Aguilera, Kesha, Shania Twain and Billie Eilish certainly managed to turn heads with outrageous looks while hitting the red carpet at the LA event on Sunday night.

Christina went over the top with bold shoulders and even a veil, while Kesha looked as if she had just stumbled out of the bath and Shania Twain struggled under a candyfloss hairdo.

Christina, 38, was a wannabe Galadriel in flowing white robes with massive jutting epaulets and overlong sleeves, teaming a stack of pearl necklaces with pearl studs between her fingers.

She slicked her platinum blonde hair tightly down between her hood and complemented her nude lipstick with an purple shade of eye makeup.

Christina cinched in her waistline with a thick solid white belt that was a strange match for the rest of the ensemble, which was sheer but speckled with tiny fabric flowers.

Painting her fingernails white, the Burlesque star further undercut her attempt to look ethereal by balancing on a pair of white go-go boots.

Shania, 54, joined the charge of the worst dressed in a bizarrely busy outfit topped off by a hairstyle that screamed Marie Antoinette at the end of a rough night out.

The country star modeled a sparkly black skirt surrounded by black mesh sashes that fell to the floor and dribbled sadly across the red carpet as she posed for the cameras.

Her rose gold blouse clashed loudly against her dress and came with a matching fabric choker, adding to the splashiness of the musical icon’s look.

Shania concealed her winning features beneath some distressingly feline makeup and rounded off the look with a glittering pair of drop earrings.

Meanwhile, Kesha took a stab at being a Versace vixen but wound up with the unfortunate combination of a stylized ‘wet hair’ look and a wrap dress that resembled a bathrobe.

Kesha accentuated her unmistakable features with makeup that amplified the soaked look, and she added a couple of necklaces including a luxurious medallion.

She slipped into a pair of Versace boots splashed with one of the the brand’s classic antiquity-inspired prints, mirroring the motif on the robe.

Halsey arrived in an explosive floral dress that resembled the sort of bouquet one would give to a suitor one were trying to get rid of.

Her ultra-kitsch off-the-shoulder dress featured a train to heighten the impact of its flowery print, which one might find on a shawl in a downmarket novelty shop.

Billie Eilish, 17, has been delighting her fanbase with her zany ensembles throughout her red carpet career and delivered once again at the American Music Awards.

The teenage pop star was kooky as ever in a Burberry beekeeper look, though she had taken off the netting from over her face when she hit the stage to collect her alternative rock artist gong.

Lauren Jauregui went for a bold snakeskin look in a billowing off-the-shoulder gown, letting her wavy dark hair cascade freely over her shoulders.

While Damon Sharpe was redolent of a cruise ship lounge singer and Nick Viall his opening act, Jamie Lee Curtis went for a dressed-down black look better suited to an art gallery opening.

Diplo has been quite taken with cowboy chic lately and continued the trend this Sunday with a burnt-orange MCM suit over a black leather vest, a black stetson and a pair of sleek black boots.
