American tourist, 35, dies while skiing down a mountain in New Zealand

  • The incident occurred on Saturday as the pair skied from top of Mt Aspiring
  • The 35-year-old man struggled and fell on the slope where he was fatally injured 
  • Mt Aspiring one of NZ’s highest mountain and is 3033m above sea level
  • Investigation currently underway as police talk to the victim’s family

An American tourist has tragically died while skiing in New Zealand. 

The incident occurred at about 1.30pm on Saturday while two tourists were skiing from the top of Mt Aspiring towards the Bonar Glacier, stuff.co.nz reported.

One of the adventurers, a 35-year-old man, fell on the slope and was fatally injured.

First aid was administered by the other skier but unfortunately it was not enough to save him and he died at the scene.   

Police and search and rescue teams worked throughout Saturday afternoon to locate the skiers.

An investigation is currently underway as police are in the process of talking to the victim’s family.

Reaching to heights of 3033m above sea level, Mt Aspiring is one of New Zealand’s highest mountains.
