Ana Ivanovic and Bastian Schweingsteiger expecting a baby

Ana Ivanovic and former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger are expecting their first child.

The couple, who married in Venice last year, took to social media on Thursday morning to announce the news.

Retired tennis star Ivanovic was first to let fans know, sharing a picture of a tiny pair of Adidas Yeezy trainers alongside her own and her husband’s.

‘A little extension to our family… couldn’t be more happy,’ the 30-year-old wrote alongside the adorable image.

Schweinsteiger then followed suit, posting a snap of himself and and his wife, writing: ‘we are expecting a new family member and are so grateful!’

The announcement does not come as a surprise, with news outlets in Germany having reported last month that Ivanovic was already four months pregnant.

World Cup winner Schweinsteiger is currently deciding whether or not he will re-sign with MLS outfit Chicago Fire for the 2018 season.

The 33-year-old left United to sign a one-year deal with the American club in March and has proved a huge hit in the MLS.

Boasting the second highest selling shirt in the league, Schweinsteiger, contributing three goals and two assists, led the Fire to third-place in the Eastern Conference this season, the franchise’s best finish since the 2009 campaign.

Unfortunately for the German, his team were eliminated in the knockout round of the MLS play-offs after a 4-0 defeat to the New York Red Bulls last month.

The player’s contract contains a mutual option for next season and manager Nelson Rodriguez has said keeping hold of him is a ‘priority’.

‘We remain optimistic that Basti and we will reach a mutually satisfactory agreement and that he will return,’ said Rodriguez.

‘I won’t put a timeline on it. I think Basti has proven his importance to our club and to our team and that remains a priority to bring him back.’
